The owner of a small local business called to discuss an employee’s attitude and behavior that had become toxic to the workplace. Morale was suffering among valued staff, and some even refused to work with the employee and were threatening to quit. The business owner was frustrated and stressed out, fearful that his business was in danger. He was unsure about handling this employee’s behavior, as handling “HR Stuff” was not his strength. We discussed his scenario, concerns, and options. Once a course of action was determined, I guided him through addressing the disruptive employee in a way that was humane yet minimized his legal risk. Within a month, the situation was resolved to the member’s satisfaction. He expressed relief and gratitude for having the Employers Council to rely upon as his trusted adviser!
