Objective

Learn the importance of careful communication skills and how the emerging use of emoticons and emoji's are creating new legal risks for employers.

Outline

Electronic communications and social media are a part of everyday life, including the workplace.  Communication is not limited to the written and spoken word, but now encompasses multiple means of delivery and non-verbal communications as well.  Whether the message sender is constrained by limited number of characters or is simply trying to inject some “fun" into their communication, many message senders are including emoticons and emoji in their communications. However, what the message sender intended by using one of these non-verbal communication tools may not be the same interpretation given by the message recipient.  That breakdown in communication can be a fertile ground for charges of harassment and discrimination and has started to show up in employment law litigation.  How careful are your managers and employees with their communications?  Is your workforce communicating in ways that are concerning you?  This webinar considers today's expanded forms and methods of communications and the impact that is having on employers from an employment law perspective.
